Difference of Aim/ Target - Goal/Objectives - Vision/ Mission
There can be many other divisions of these similar meaning words; it depends a lot on context.
  1. Vision/Mission – mentions your future plan/ organises your mind and work.
Ex: Where are you headed? (E.g. beyond the project duration)

2. Target/Aim - End Result (e.g. when the project is over)

3. Goal/Objectives - What High Level Achievements are needed to reach Target
OR:
-aim: purpose or intention
- goal: objective toward which an endeavour is directed
- vision: the way in which one conceives of something
- mission: a self- imposed duty
- target: a desired goal

So basically aim, goal, and target are the same. The vision is how you see yourself getting there and the mission is getting yourself there. Wherever your there may be.

PHÂN BIỆT CÁCH SỬ DỤNG CÁC TỪ: OTHER & ANOTHER

1. Other
- Đề cập tới một cái gì đó khác biệt, phân biệt giữa cái này và cái kia:
E.g.: They have 2 sons. You’ve just met Jack. The other boy, Nick, is even more intelligent.
Họ có 2 cậu con trai. Anh vừa gặp Jack đấy. Thằng bé còn lại, Nick, thậm chí còn thông minh hơn.
- Other cũng có thể sử dụng như một danh từ, others là danh từ số nhiều, trong những trường hợp không cần thiết phải có danh từ ở sau.
E.g.: Only 2 out of 10 balls are red. The others are all green.
Chỉ có 2 trong số 10 quả bóng là màu đỏ. Các quả còn lại đều màu xanh

2. Another
- Được ghép từ An Other, đề cập tới một cái gì đó mang tính chất “thêm vào”:
E.g.: Do you want another drink?
Ông có muốn một cốc nữa không? (Ông đã uống 1 hoặc nhiều cốc rồi, ông có muốn thêm 1 cốc khác nữa không?)
Để rõ hơn về sự khác biệt, ta hãy xét các ví dụ:
OTHER
E.g.: There are different kinds of fruit in the basket. One is apple, one is pineapple and the other is banana.

=> Chỉ có 3 loại quả trong giỏ mà thôi. 1 loại là táo, 1 loại là dứa và “loại kia” là chuối.

E.g.: You take this and I will take the other. Anh lấy cái này đi và tôi sẽ lấy cái kia

ANOTHER
E.g.: There are different kinds of fruit in the basket. One is apple, one is pineapple and another is banana.
=> Có nhiều hơn 3 loại quả trong giỏ. 1 loại là táo, 1 loại là dứa, 1 loại “nữa” là chuối, còn 1 hoặc nhiều loại khác nữa chưa đề cập tới.

E.g.: You take this and I will take another one.
Anh lấy cái này đi và tôi sẽ đi lấy thêm 1 cái nữa

=> Tóm lại Other được sử dụng để nói đến những cá thể trong một tập thể xác định còn Another nói đến một sự bổ sung trong một tập thể mà chưa xác định.

Let’s imagine “you are notorious”
It is believed that almost people would desire to be the celebrities, even notorious ones in the world. However, some people become famous because of their talent, whereas some others make the scandals or strange things. “Celebrity” was an interesting topic referring to the meeting of GLN EC on Saturday 21st, August.

We were happy to welcome many new members this week. They were the inspiration of fresh and exciting stories in GLN EC. In fact, each person spent the moment giving unique and funny ideas.

In the discussion, we shared the advantages and disadvantages of being celebrity in details. In terms of the advantages, some members shared that as a famous person, they got a lot of money to spend their comfortable life. Moreover, they were always attracted by other people around them. As a result,  everything they said and did was subject to the public.
In addition, it was more important that the celebrities were seen, admired and loved by a lot of their fans. However, it wouldn't be easy to spend perfect life if you were famous. You would have no privacy, in other words, you lacked freedom when almost people, especially the newspapers, always paid attention to your private life. There were many ideas around this issue. Therefore, the discussion took place noisily with conflicting views.

In short, it was considered to be the most interesting in working in groups. There were three funny performances.

The program ended in the happiness and satisfaction of all members. Through this topic, people knew more about one another as well as some useful lessons in life.

7 Tricks To Help Remember New Words Quickly & Easily

Words, words, words…so many to learn and it’s so hard to remember them all, let alone use them, right? Words, words, words…so many to learn and it’s so hard to remember them all, let alone use them, right? Well, today I’ve got seven tips that should make learning & remembering new vocabulary easier, faster, more fun, and more effective.
1. Make word association webs – our brain takes what we read and makes it into images, ideas, and feelings etc. and then makes connections between what we knew before and the new information (words and ideas). This is how we remember things. The “new” stuff is fitted into the “old” stuff. Think of a tree. It is easier for you to see a big tree with lots of branches and leaves than it is to see a small tree with very few branches and leaves, right? Well, it’s the same for your brain. When you connect a new word or idea to things you already know you make it easier for your brain to find (see) it when you need to remember it. How can you do this? Easy. Make an Idea Web. Start with the thing you want to remember (words, ideas, sentences) in the middle of a piece of paper. Then draw lines from it like a spider’s web. At the end of the line write down any ideas or words or even pictures that you think of when you say the word or idea in the middle of the page. Anything you think of is ok…just write it down.
This only takes about 2 minutes. Now all the words/ideas are getting connected in your mind. If you see or hear one of them it will help your brain remember all of the others. To make this work really well, you can talk to yourself about how each word/idea fits together with the others. The more you do this, the more connections you make. Lots of connections makes it very easy for your brain to “see” the word you want to recall when you are trying to remember it.
2. Remember in Chunks (collocations) – Remembering the word is important but English, like Chinese, is a language and languages are NOT just facts to be remembered – they are tools for people to USE to express their ideas and communicate. So, find examples of how each word is used in your text. Write a few words before and after the word so that you remember how it is used. For example: if your word is “arrogant” write something like this….”the tall, arrogant man” … This will help you to remember that “arrogant” is an adjective and that it describes people. The next thing to do is to make 3 full sentences with the word to practice using it.
3. Use pictures – Draw small pictures that show the meaning of the word if you can. Sounds crazy, right? That’s why it works. Our brains have so much normal information coming in every moment that a crazy image is a nice surprise – and you always remember surprises, don’t you? Our brains are also specially designed to catch and understand visual information quickly. So, make a funny picture that shows the meaning of the word you want to remember and your brain will remember it easily.
4. Tell a tall story – I always hear my students say that there are too many new words to remember. There’s a memory trick you can use to do this. Just make a crazy story that uses all the words. Picture it in your mind as you make the story. We remember stories easily, especially crazy stories that we can imagine in detail in our minds. Repeat the story and you will remember the words. When you make the story connect the words in funny ways. For example, if you want to remember these 20 words:
shoes, piano, tree, pencil, bird, bus, books, driver, dog, pizza, flower, basketball, door, television, spoons, chair, jump, dance, computer, stone….you could make a story like this:
There is a piano wearing shoes and sitting in a tree. The tree is strange because someone has stuck a giant pencil through it. On the pencil a bird is sitting and watching a bus full of people reading books. Even the driver is reading a book which is bad because he isn’t paying attention to driving. So, he hits a dog that is eating a pizza in the middle of the road and kills it. The driver digs a hole and buries the dog in it and then puts a flower on it. He notices that there is a door in the dog’s grave and opens it. Inside he can see a television with 2 spoons for antennas on top of it. No-one is watching the television because they are all watching the chair. Why? – Because the chair is jumping and dancing and throwing stones at the computer.
Try it. You’ll be surprised!
5. Recycle the pieces – Use roots, prefixes and suffixes to guess what a word means. For example:
Maybe you don’t recognize this word “microbiology” but may be able to guess what it means. First, look at the prefix “micro”. Micro means very small. You may also remember that “ology” means a subject, the study of something. Already we know that part of this word’s meaning is “the study of” + “something small”. Now, you will probably remember that “bio” means living things. So, we can figure out that microbiology probably means the study of very small living things. This is correct. English is like a puzzle – we put the pieces together to make new words. So if you make a list of word beginnings that you often see (un-, dis-, con-, micro-, etc.) and word endings that you often see (-able, -ly, -ent, -tion, -ive, etc.) and remember what they mean, you will be able to guess what many new words mean.
6. Think & learn in opposites – Learn words with opposite meanings (antonyms) and words with similar meanings (synonyms) together. For example, learn angry/happy (antonyms) andangry/cross (synonyms) at the same time. We can remember similar and opposite things more easily because they “stick together” in our minds.
7. Timing is everything – According to psychologists who study how we remember anything, there is a better way to learn things quickly and permanently. Use the new word immediately. Use it 10 minutes later. Use it 1 hour later. Use it 1 day later. Use it 1 week later. After that, you’ll rarely have to review – the new vocabulary is yours forever.
Have Fun!

Teamwork skills

Teamwork has become an important part of the working culture and a lot of businesses now look at teamwork skills when evaluating a person for their recruitment. Most companies realize that teamwork is important because either the product is sufficiently complex that it requires a team with multiple skills to produce, and/or a better product will result when a team approach is taken. Therefore, it is important that students learn to function in a team environment so that they will have teamwork skill when they enter the workforce. Also, research tells us that students learn best from tasks that involve doing tasks and involve social interactions. To know more about teamwork skills, come to GLN English Club this week with the topic “Teamwork Skills”

                      Ao Vua-Unforgetable memory
(By Nguyen Thi Hong Mai-a member in AO VUA trip)
70 km away from Ha Noi’ capital, Ao Vua eco tourist stretches the foot of Tan Vien Mountain. It only takes an hour and a half to get here from the centre of Ha Noi. This is the reason why Ao Vua attracts hundred of tourists each year, an ideal place for who want to seek relaxation after tired working days. I visited Ao Vua in the special day when the storm was coming. Waking up at 6 am, staring through the window, the fear subsided when it stops. Suddenly, it rained hard and even harder. After a while hesitating, I called my friend. A soft voice raised “ Let’s go, Mai” encouraged me. Walking in the pouring rain, I met a girl halfway like me struggling against the unpleasant weather. A smile gave in the rainfall brought me indefinable emotion. In the small car, I enjoyed the warm and intimate atmosphere even though some strange faces appeared. A couple of funny stories, a couple of songs combining traditional and modern types connected young hearts closer and closer.

It seemed hard to express how amazing the weather change is. We arrived at Ao Vua when it had just stopped. I took a deep breath to enjoy the purely fresh air. We weren’t the only “ crazy” team choosing this place as destination that day because there were many people even a little child surrounded us. It is a persuasive evidence for the attractive beauty of Ao Vua.  Ao Vua eco tourist spot has total construction area of 21 ha in addition to 100 ha of natural forest. All construction in items are designed in a way that is close to nature. The first impression in my mind about this place is the green color of natural forest making me forget trouble daily life and totally relax. The wide sky gradually turned from grey to light blue.  The huge white clouds with all weird and strange shapes satisfied the imaginative heads of young people. It is interesting here is the scene of soft clouds fly around the top of mountain just like heaven. An open and green space is a harmonious combination between the creative of “God hand” and the imagination together with the effort of people. In the hand of talented sculpture artists, many types of statue imitated animal or taken from source of legends become lively and close to me in an expected way. We took photographs in order to memorize that special moment together. The laughter filled the air and the emotion called happiness filled in my heart. Instead of taking a dip in blue swimming pool, I challenge myself by taking a boat with my friend. Sitting on the boat, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, we revealed a couple of secret memory about our childhood. The wind gently blew my hair. I reached my hand to catch the raindrop and let it pass through my fingers. The large bond reflects the image of bridge: which is designed the same as the China one, which is rather unique because of the curved shape like the image of the boiled shrimp. After eating the lunch, we spent time playing funny game and sharing the private secret. The laughter was gone with the wind, flew higher and further. These honest stories made us closer and closer. In the afternoon, we went on the holiday by the interesting experience with the waterfall. There are total 9 waterfalls in this area and each has its own beauty. In addition, in BaVi complex, streams in Ao Vua are among the biggest. However, the streams here flow rather smoothly. I spent a little time to listen to the voice of these streams which continue whispering and murmuring all day long. While my friend tested themselves by discovering the natural waterfall, I walked around and around. Sometimes, I want to find a silent place to think back and forget all the burden of worry.  In the rest of that afternoon, we side by side took photograph and bought something as souvenir. Standing in front of extraordinary souvenirs, the small flower vases made from the bamboo and the skilful hand of Muong or Dao women, I can’t control the curiousness and admiration. To make these products, they had to buy bamboo and cut them into pieces, then using knife to create figures after painting on them carefully.
It was a bit sad when we had to say goodbye to Ao Vua. Leaving Ao Vua, during  the trip coming back Ha Noi, the imagines of that place appeared in my mind with many color: green of long-standing tree and water, yellow and purple of flowers, soft white of clouds and specially, the red heart of one team who are enthusiastic and creative. Ao Vua- See you again in sooner day!
