[GLN EC Sunday] Topic 08/09: The gift of life

“The most precious gift one possesses is life. A human being only lives once. And his duty is to live his life fullest – so he will not regret his wasted youth, so he will not pity his own past full of mistakes and error – and in the end, when that person closes his eyes he could peacefully and proudly dictate: all my life I dedicated to the most noble career…”
– How the Steel was Tempered – Nikolai Ostrovsky –
We were born are a gift which was given by the God. Since then we would have to face many things called fate and ends by the death. Yet our lives, our very existence is extremely fragile – like a cherry blossom. If a cherry blossom was so fragile, and how could we spend the gift of life was given to us the time we were existed? All these questions shall be answered by our discussion today of the GLN English Club!

[GLN EC Saturday] Topic 07/09: ECONOMIC TERMINOLOGIES

Every field of study has its own language and its own way of thinking. Mathematicians talk about axioms, integrals and vector spaces. Psychologists talk about ego, id and cognitive dissonance. Lawyers talk about venue, torts and promissory estopped. Economics is no different: Supply, demand, elasticity, comparative advantage, consumer surplus, deadweight loss – terms are part of the economist’s language. So what do these terms mean? How do you understand about them if you are not student learning about Economics? In fact, these terms are everywhere in our daily lives – all day, every day! However, we have no chance to approach and talk about. Therefore, why don’t you come to GLN EC on Saturday afternoon this week and get your own understanding about Economic terminologies?

[GLN EC Saturday] Topic 24/08: Beggars

Around public places in modern cities and towns, including Hanoi, Ho chi minh city, there are a plenty number of people begging for money. They look so miserable with insufficient and disheveled clothes, no food and eyes wandering aimlessly. Passers-by, out of their sympathy, throw some coins and notes into these beseeching people’s hats used as their money collection boxes while most go by without a glance and even eye them with a despising thought “What is the hell these bastards are doing?”.
How do you think about begging? Let’s come to GLN English Club and enjoy the topic “Beggars” in this Saturday afternoon.
