“The third gender in Vietnam – What do you know?”

Perhaps all of you have heard about the terms "les", "gay" or “the third gender”. However, “What is “the third gender”? “What are the characteristics of a third – gender person? And “what are points of view about this issue?”…, can you answer all of these questions?. These were also the hot issues discussed excitingly in GLN English Club last Saturday.

The program started with a very interesting and new game named “Following the pictures, guessing the words”. Being funny but also difficult to guess, these pictures in the slideshow made the atmosphere become really exciting with a lot of fun.

Although “The third gender” was quite popular nowadays, it was still a complicated and controversial issue, especially in a very traditional country like Vietnam. However, it was the part “Discussing in pairs” that helped to provide all the attendants a lot of knowledge and new experience, which made the issue become easier to understand. Besides, one of the special things in this time was that even newcomers also dare to stand up for sharing their ideas about these sensitive issues in front of the club. Through this part, certainly, everyone would felt the topic much easier and simpler.

(Sharing the ideas....)

Next was the “Discussing in groups” in which a new subtopic was given as a challenge for the two groups: “Is sex changing the best way to help third – gender people adapt to the life?”. Not only for improving teamwork skill or encouraging creative thinking, this part also brought about the opportunities of improving public speaking skill under the form of presentation. Two couples representing for the two groups – newcomers for the first time presented their interesting ideas confidently while others paid attention to their presentations and gave comments. Through this part and the whole program, surely all the members would have a lot of opportunities of attaining more knowledge, practicing their English and having more new friends.

The program was ended up with an animated game for the purpose of remembering others’ names. The game made the atmosphere even more exciting and after the game, surprisingly, all the members could remember all the names in the club. It was really an unforgettable memory!
