Suicide trend among Vietnamese young people

Suicide trend is becoming popular not only in Vietnam but also in many other countries around the world. It’s time for us to  look  at this problem and find the best solutions to  reduce suicide trend. GLN EC had a useful discussion in English on this hot issue.

As expected, the topic " Suicide trend among Vietnamese young people”  attracted the attention and participation of numerous members from many universities in Hanoi. It is not only a popular trend among Vietnamese young people but also the problem of many authorities around the world.

This meeting attracted many participants by a newer and more unique  program framework in comparison with the usual one. In the opening game, everyone had to make the friends sitting by their right hands smile by words or actions. This game successfully broke the ice and made all the members feel much more comfortable and closed instead of the initial surprise. In this part, the members were not afraid to share their opinions as well as their understandings of the causes and consequences of suicide on both spiritual and physical aspects in our country today, especially in young people such as pupils, students, etc.

After that, there was an inconclusive debate between the two teams with the attractive and practical plays. The teams are free to create their ideas and unique ways to perform the drama. The plays  thought outside the box by members were really interesting, funny  and surprised. Besides, both the short plays also gave us a meaningful message: "We need to cosset and respect our life".

Moreover, this discussion still had a rather new part: presenting your ideas based on the given words in the paper  within one minute. Every members were absolutely  surprised and fascinated by this activity. While some members  felt difficult to come up with the  ideas in a short time , others showed impressively and completely. The attractive topic as well as new content created the opportunities for members to not only learn English and  expand the social knowledge but also enjoy themselves. Many stayed to continue to share their opinions and practice English with key members.

Why do a lot of famous people, even the young, choose to lead a single life? “Single or marriage”, which is better and wiser? Come to GLN EC this week to share your viewpoint about this interesting topic “ Single or Marriage”.

Thảo luận sôi nổi và cuốn hút với “trào lưu tự tử trong giới trẻ Việt Nam”

Trào lưu tự tử đang trở nên phổ biến không chỉ trong giới trẻ VN mà còn ở nhiều nước trên thế giới. Chúng ta cần nhìn nhận vấn đề này như thế nào và đâu là những giải pháp tốt nhất để khắc phục tình trạng này? GLN EC đã có một buổi thảo luận tiếng Anh rất bổ ích về vấn đề hot này

Đúng như dự đoán, chủ đề “trào lưu tự tử trong giới trẻ VN” thu hút sự quan tâm và tham gia của đông đảo thành viên đến từ nhiều trường ĐH trên địa bàn HN. Đó không chỉ là một trào lưu khá phổ biến trong giới trẻ Việt Nam mà cũng là vấn nạn làm đau đầu nhiều nhà chức trách trên thế giới.

   

Chương trình thu hút người tham gia bằng sự mới mẻ, độc đáo và đổi mới so với khung thảo luận thường thấy hàng tuần. Mở màn bằng trò chơi:  phải làm cho người ngồi bên tay phải của mình cười bằng lời nói hoặc hành động của mình  đã làm cho không khí trong phòng trở nên gần gũi, thoải mái và thân thiện hơn sau những bỡ ngỡ ban đầu ở các thành viên mới.  Ở phần này, các thành viên đã không ngại chia sẻ quan điểm cũng như sự hiểu biết của mình về thực trạng, nguyên nhân cũng như hậu quả của tự tử về cả khía cạnh tinh thần và vật chất ở nước ta hiện nay, đặc biệt là  những người trẻ tuổi như sinh viên, học sinh.

                    

Khác với khung các chương trình tuần trước, các thành viên tham gia trong chương trình tuần này có dịp trổ tài sáng tạo và thưởng thức hai vở kịch ngắn rất hấp dẫn và hài hước. Bên cạnh đó, phần thi thuyết trình trong 1 phút với chỉ 2-3 từ cho sẵn đã làm khán phòng không khỏi bất ngờ và hồi hộp theo dõi

Ngay sau đó là phần debate  bất phân thắng bại của 2 đội chơi với 2 tình huống đóng kịch rất hấp dẫn và rất thực tế. Các đội chơi được thoả sức sáng tạo những ý tưởng độc đáo cũng như những cách giải quyết “độc nhất vô nhị”  trong phần diễn kịch vô cùng hài hước. Bên cạnh đó, hai đoạn kịch ngắn còn mang đến cho chúng ta một thông điệp vô cùng ý nghĩa: “Cần phải biết nâng niu, trân trọng cuộc sống ở trên đời”

Không những vậy, buổi thảo luận này còn có một phần khá mới lạ: đó là thuyết trình về 1 từ hoặc cụm từ liên quan đến chủ đề chỉ trong 1 phút. Các bạn đều không khỏi bỡ ngỡ và cuốn hút bởi phần trò chơi này, có người đã thể hiện rất ấn tượng và truyền đạt trọn vẹn cũng có người chưa kịp nảy sinh ra ý tưởng nào.

Sự hấp dẫn của đề tài, sự mới mẻ trong nội dung đã tạo cho các thành viên không chỉ cơ hội học tiếng Anh, mở rộng thêm kiến thức xã hội mà còn giúp người tham gia có những giờ phút thư giãn thực sự.  Nhiều người đã ở lại để tiếp tục chia sẻ ý kiến của mình, thực hành tiếng Anh với những người làm chương trình.

Everyday, on the mass media such as TV, newspapers or the internet, we can’t help feeling painful because of a lot of suicides among the young in Vietnam. Then, we wonder ourselves with questions: “Why do many of the young decide to kill themselves while they have the right to enjoy their bright future ahead? What are the best solutions to help them stay away from this foolish action?” Let’s come to GLN EC to share your viewpoints about the hot topic this week: “Suicide among young people in Vietnam”

·     Option 1: You decide to break up with your girfriend because you don’t love her anymore. However, your lover says that “if you stay away from me, I will kill myself” and you realize that she is serious. How can you deal with this situation?

·    Option 2: Vietnam’s king of hell decides to punish dead young people because of  their suicide. To avoid this punishment, the dead must persuade him that your suicide is reasonable. What would you say if you were the dead person?

=> Choosing one of the two topics and making a play to show your viewpoints in 5 minutes.

      4:15-4:30: Expansion activity

·        Presenting based on  words given in 1 minute as funny as possible (just for 10 quickest members)

=> 2 winners will receive some interesting presents.

Discovering the phenomenon “Brain drain in Vietnam” together with GLN EC

There is an evidence that Viet Nam is one of the countries where brain drain is in  an alarm situation. 70 percents of the students who study overseas are estimated not to return their host country after graduating. Thousands of doctors, engineers are leaving the country each year, etc. Thus, are there any solutions for this phenomenon??? The answer mentioned in the meeting of GLN English club this week.

            Because of this hot topic, the program attracts the participation of many new people. Before the meeting starts, all members  are very excited to make friends with one another in a friendly and open atmostphere . That is a good opportunity for them to expand their relationship. After that, everyone watches an interesting clip relating to this topic. The clip gives them background of "brain drain" which is no longer a strange phenomenon in the world. It contains many threats and also opportunities when one country loses or has brain gain.

             As an usual, working in pairs is always the most exciting. Each person has his opinion which really differs from others, but complements each other. Their sharings  bring more knowledge for all participants. In term of definition, brain drain is known as the mass emigration of talented people from one country to another. It happens because of lack of opportunities, political instability, and economic depression and may be health risks. The discussion helps members to have insight for the future of our country as well as their own intention. Also, through discussing, the participants recognize that brain gain makes a rapid economic growth in developed countries. Hence, our country also should apply some practical policies , such as improving education system, paying higher salary than  other  countries and providing the best working environment and conditions.

            It is said that the meeting is really interesting and informative. Everyone has opportunity to not only practice speaking English, but also  discuss  one of the top hot issues in the world. The program finishes at 5p.m but many members continue staying in the club to share some of their feelings and ideas.
