Voluntary Activities - An Attractive Outdoor Topic

Voluntary Activities - An Attractive Outdoor Topic
Last Saturday, GLN EC held an outdoor event with the topic "Voluntary Activities for the Youth". The outdoor meeting took place in Hoa Binh Park - a very nice new park established in Hanoi on the occasion of the 1000 – year anniversary of Thang Long Ha Noi
The romantic and open space, as well as the pleasant weather, warmed up the meeting of more than 15 members. Especially, this outdoor event created the opportunity for all members to coordinate the activities. The MC was not the only leader who controlled the games. Anyone who had ideas for the games and wanted to take the role of facilitator was free to do so. Two interesting games, introduced between the discussions in pairs and in groups, gave members the moments of extreme enjoyment. A member even commented that when anyone took part in these games, they could not help laughing.

A very funny game!
One of the most important and useful parts for the members was their sharing about their voluntary activities - kinds of social activities which have long attracted many young people. Each pair discussed voluntary activities in Hanoi very keenly as well as their own stories about volunteering. Thanks to the sincere sharing of experienced volunteers, other members had the opportunity to understand more about some volunteer organizations like Oxfam Hong Kong, VPV with programs such as work camps, city tour programs, etc. Many touching stories and humorous anecdotes about volunteering were also enthusiastically shared by the members.

Discussing in pairs keenly
Some young people still hesitated to volunteer for fear of wasting time and having less focus on studying. Therefore, the issue "Should we take part in voluntary activities?" was raised in the discussions in groups. Three groups were engrossed in debating and it was not too surprising when all of the groups supported the point of view that the youth should join these activities. With quite impressive, fluent and confident presentations, three groups gave an overview of the benefits of volunteering: helping others in our community, improving soft skills, receiving certificates of participation, etc. Each presentation was commented on immediately in regard to the content and the presentation skills or in other words, the public speaking skills

After the meeting, the entire club went sightseeing around Hoa Binh Park and took a lot of photos. Thanks to such kinds of outdoor activities, all the members have the opportunity to not only practice English in a new environment, but also make friends as well as learn English and other living experiences.
