[GLN NTD] Topic 11/08: WESTERN VS EASTERN CULTURE


Thank to globalization, many people have more chances to approach different cultures in the world. Travelling abroad, studying overseas and working at foreign markets are experiences that make us closer to new societies and new cultures. However, as eastern people, in some cases, problems occur when we communicate with westerners, which are caused by cultural differences between two parts of the world. So what factors create those remarkable dissimilarity? How are eastern and western cultures  different from each other, as well as ? Let’s participate in our meeting on this Saturday afternoon at GLN IELTS Review center Nguyen Thi Dinh. It is  promising to bring you a burning and helpful discussion.      1.      In your opinion, what is culture? Tell us typical cultures in the world (in wertern and eastern cultures)
     2.      What factors cause the remarkable differences between two cultures?
     3.       How do western and eastern people differ from with each other, in terms of:
                  ·    How to confront a problem
                  ·    How to express themselves: feelings or opinions
                  ·    The lifestyle: independent vs dependent
                  ·    How to handle the relationships: teachers and students, boss and staff, parents and children…
                  ·    The attitude to punctuality
                  ·    Behaviors at social places such as queuing or sound at restaurants…
                  ·    The standard for beauty
      4.      As eastern people, Can you give examples of some problems caused by these differences when working and living with western people?
